Hi,
We are looking to buy a king size mattress for our master bedroom and have a few queries / questions that we would like some input on from your side please.
We want a medium/firm mattress ideally but something that retains its firmness over age, so should we be better off going for a firm mattress now with the assumption that it will become less firm in 1-2 years time? What is the normal firmness retention for your mattresses?
Ideally we would like to avoid any options that would become very hot or uncomfortable during summers / night due to poor heat dissipation.
My wife is a light sleeper so what would be the best option to ensure that if I did turn in bed, it would not disturb her to break her sleep? I am about 16 stone and my wife is 10 stone so what would be a good option for us?
Also we have a wooden slat base for our king bed, so would the weight of the mattress cause sag / damage to the slats and should we look at the lighter weight options with pocket springs instead of the heavier Artisan options?
For the delivery, we live in an apartment on the first floor of building, without a lift for access, so would the delivery company be okay to deliver to the property?
Based on the above questions in our minds, we have narrowed the choices down to the Origin Pocket 1500 / Origin Latex 1500 / Artisan 1500 Mattresses from the website. Ignoring the price difference, which option will be best suited for us to meet as many of the requirements listed above? I appreciate it's not possible to tick all the boxes but if we can tick majority of them, that would be appreciated.
And what is the current delivery lead time for the 3 options listed above? We need a mattress in 2 weeks time so would this be possible or not?

Hi Himanshu,

It is pleasing to see that you are asking pertinent questions before deciding upon the right mattress to suit your requirements.

All mattresses are subject to settlement with regular use, however, turning and rotating a mattress every month will spread the wear and reduce the flattening effect you refer to.

To avoid overheating, I would suggest that you look at mattresses that do not contain foam of any sort or even some latex products.

Whilst both your body weights are suited to a medium spring tension.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

I note the specific requirement to avoid disturbance occurring when one party moves. Individually encased pocket springs would offer this solution, however, to be certain of no interruption in sleep, I would suggest opting for a zip and link set of mattresses, which are available in king size and above.

I would not place either of you on a firm spring tension mattress as this is likely to result in aches and pains occurring.

As far as your slatted base is concerned, we always advocate placing some form of barrier, usually in the form of then (3-5mm) MDF sheeting over the slats to provide the mattress with a uniform surface upon which to sit. This will not only make any mattress feel slightly firmer, but will prevent ridging occurring as a result of the mattress dipping into the gaps between the slats. It will also prevent bulging or dipping appearing in the centre where the central support bar sit on the base.

Your current slatted base should be strong enough to support the weight of any mattress together with your body weights, and the addition of the MDF will strengthen it in any event.

Our delivery service is to room of choice, removal of packaging and placing on the existing base, it matters not that you are on the first floor, particularly if you do opt for the zip and link set, although our delivery crews will be able to deliver a one piece king size mattress without difficulty.

The Artisan products are ordered on a Thursday and take just over two weeks to manufacture, at which point they go direct to our couriers, who will arrange delivery with you. The overall lead time is between 4 and 5 weeks from the point of order.

Of the three options you refer to I would suggest that you opt for the Artisan 1500 in a medium spring tension as this will provide the support your require and comfort from the upholstery layers.

In addition, if it is turned and rotated regularly, it should last in excess of the 5 year guarantee provided.

I trust that the above answers all you questions, but if you require any further advice or guidance prior to placing an order, please call our office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards Gary
