Best mattress to suit pregnant partner and back pain suffering me

Carlo

I have had a super king size Ikea memory foam mattress for coming on 8 years now. In the last year to two years it has lost the ability to remain firm and dips quite easily after lying in it for a short while. I have a history of back pain which comes and goes, and at the moment I am mostly ok, however each morning my back aches due to the mattress and I am constantly changing positions in my sleep to avoid the mattress dipping too much in one area! I believe a firm mattress would be best for me. A decade or so ago I was sleeping on a futon for a couple of years and that seemed quite helpful. My partner, however, is pregnant (early stages) and I read that a firm mattress is not ideal for pregnant women. Obviously, the pregnancy won't last forever, but at the same time needs to be considered. I weigh 67-70kg. She weighs more or less the same (when not pregnant). My height is 5'11 and hers 5'9. Please let me know your thoughts as to what solutions there are in choosing a new mattress.
Many thanks!

Hi Carlo,

Thanks for your question.

The old information out there was to choose a firm mattress for back pains whereas it's simply not true these days.

As such, we'd advise now to go for something more medium feeling providing a slight sink but not too much.

At your body weight you will need a Medium spring tension to get the right support. I know that your wife is pregnant at the minute and the weight will change as a result but we'd need to know a guideline in order to advise suitable tension for her.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

Have a look at our Origins Pocket 1500, Artisan Naturals or Artisan Bespoke 004.

All 3 models are very medium feeling in the top layers; The main difference is that the Artisan range is constructed with natural fillings which not only last longer but also provide a cool sleep surface. In the Artisan range you can tailor the spring tensions inside the one piece mattress, which is why we would need to know a guideline for your wife's weight.

I hope this has answered your questions fully but if you do have any further queries please don't hesitate to contact our office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards, Lee.
