Replacing old mattress and topper

Hi there, we're looking to replace our old mattress which we've also added a foam topper to. We quite like the softer feel that the topper gives, but I do find it too warm in summer. We're both around 11st or under and are looking for the best option for a new mattress. So far I've looked at the Pocket 1000 and Pocket 1500 (size double). What would you recommend as the best option for us and should we also think about adding a separate topper or not? Our bed has slats for support and so from reading your site I believe we should be looking at adding a sheet of MDF or plywood.

Hi Rob

Thank you for your enquiry via our website. The memory foam topper is probably what is creating the extra warmth, as it is renowned for retaining body heat, a more fibre filled topper, would be a cooler style of mattress topper to use.

Origins Comfort 1000 luxury mattress

In our Origins range of mattresses, the Origins Pocket 1500 is the overall medium feel mattress, not too soft or too firm in the top upholstery layers, the Origins Comfort 1000 is the model that has slightly softer top upholstery layers than the Origins Pocket 1500.

I would say with any new mattress don't add a topper straight away, a mattress protector is essential from day one, but give your new mattress a couple of weeks, so your body gets used to the feel, and then if that extra comfort layer is needed, that is the time to add a topper. We only say you need to board a slatted base, if the slats are more than 3" apart.

If you require any more assistance please call the office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards Gary
