Please can you suggest a suitable mattress -
I am 67 years of age (male), 5 ft 9" tall, weigh 11 st 12 lbs and have a long term stiff and achy lower back. I sleep mainly on my side but also sometimes on my back. I have a divan hard bed base. Price range (for a single size) up to about £600.

Hi Terry,

Many thanks for your enquiry.

We find that the primary cause for back ache is the fact that the wrong spring tension, feel or both, has been selected meaning that either too much or too little support is being provided.

With your particular body weight, you ought to be looking for a medium spring tension;

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

Having said that, because you are a side sleeper, you need extra comfort to be provided and so we would suggest that you view the Origins Comfort 1000, which has a medium spring with softer comfort layers and falls well within your current budget.

Our naturally upholstered mattresses with the level of upholstery required are outside your budget, but if you are able to increase that, the please look at the Artisan Naturals, which can have the spring tension selected as medium and has 85% natural upholstery.

We trust that the above is of assistance to you, but if you require any further advice or guidance, please call our office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards, John and Ryan.
