Which mattress is like a pillow top?

I know you advise against pillow tops (for very good reason). However, the mattresses we like have all been pillow tops. Does any of your range provided the same feel as a pillow top or is a topper required?

Hi Vivien,

Thank you for your enquiry. Pillowtops are fraught with issues such as settlement, dipping and sagging. These are always one sided mattresses which are best avoided.

For us to be able to provide some more guidance we would need to know which mattress models and pillowtops you're looking at? As is impossible for us to say which of our products is similar in feel to a pillow top without knowing the model concerned. However, adding a removable topper like our Latex toppers onto a quality two-sided mattress will get you the pillowtop feel without the draw backs.

When looking at mattresses make sure you find out the details of construction and upholstery in terms of GSM (grams per square metre). This will then help you to be able to make direct comparisons between mattresses.

We have our mattress buying guide here which will help explain the main things you really need to understand before buying a new mattress which should help.

How much to spend on a double mattress? What can I expect for my money?
Under £500 Will not get you much at best a 13.5 gauge open coil/cage sprung with a thin polyester layer or a solid foam mattress.
£500 Entry level spunbond springs with some form of synthetic upholstery. Usually one sided mattresses.
£750 The beginnings of a basic pocket springs unit with 800 – 1000 count. No substantial amount of filling other than foams and synthetic materials. Two sided models.
£1000 Should get you away from most low ranges and into the mid-range pocket spring models.
£1250 Should get you a decent pocket sprung mattress with some Natural Fibre content.
£1500 Should get you many manufacturers mid-range models with Natural Fibres
£1500-£2000 Should get you a Hand Made primarily Natural Fibre Quality Mattress
£2000+ You should expect 100% Natural Fibres and Traditional Hand Made Construction Method.
£5000+ A Bespoke Hand Made Sleep System, High-end Spring Units & Featuring the Worlds Most Luxurious Natural Fibres.

I hope this has answered your questions fully but if you do have any further queries please call our office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards, John and Ryan.
