Big weight diff/sleeping partners (9st). Heavy one 22 st

Big Dude

Hi – We have an approx 6 year old King size Vi Spring Divan at the moment which I (the heavy one) find extremely comfortable, however, my partner hates it because she basically gets sucked into the gravitational well caused by me on the bed!
It’s got to the point where she is not going to put up with it any more, so the time has come to get a new bed/mattress. I would rather not go for a resilience mattress as I don’t think it would suit my partner. I note in a previous reply to someone in a similar predicament you mentioned the Artisan Tailored Pocket as a possible solution.
Would a single mattress with two separate firmnesses overcome this issue or would it be better to go for a zip and link mattress? Would I be able to use one of your mattresses with my existing vi spring divan?
The docs has also put me on a diet, so will I need to get a new mattress assuming I am able to get down to 18st (quite the ambition I know...)?
I also note that you recommended the use of a topper for situations like mine – Do you have one that’s not going to make me overheat?
Thanks

Hi there,

Thank you for your enquiry.

With your particular weight differential, we would advise a split spring tension, firm for you and soft for your partner. Such mattresses are only available in our Artisan range and in a zip and link set. The mattresses in this range contain natural upholstery in different amounts and combinations dependent upon the model.

The Artisan Tailored Pocket 2000, can be made with the spring tensions suggested and has slightly firmer upholstery, which would be ideal for you, even if you lose weight. Similarly, if your partner opts for the soft spring, this upholstery should not feel too firm. Providing that there are no defects in your current base, there is no reason why you cannot utilise this with a new mattress from ourselves.

As far as toppers are concerned, we would not advise you to buy one at the same time as your mattress as it can take at least 21-28 days for your body to get used to the feel of a new mattress in comparison to your current mattress and it could well turn out to be an unnecessary expense. We only make latex or hybrid foam toppers, which we would not necessarily recommend for use with a naturally upholstered mattress. You should always look to replicate the mattress upholstery in a topper, so for the Artisan range, a topper with natural materials would suit. which are not likely to make you overheat.

We trust that this helps, but if you require any further advice or guidance, please call our office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards.
