Is British wool better than New Zealand wool and if so why?
I am looking at the Fursdon Bedstead Supreme 1500 & Wool Bedstead Supreme 1700... would the comfort layer of the latter compress down more in time than the Fursdon... also I note that the Vi Spring mattresses made for John Lewis now contain New Zealand wool where as Vi Springs own range contain British Wool...is British wool better if so why? I have spinal and hip problems and a side sleeper only. I would be most grateful for some advice. Regards Mrs J Sparrow
Hi Mrs J Sparrow,
Thank you for your question. I have looked at both of these mattresses which have medium comfort layers. Yes, the Wool Bedstead Supreme would compress quicker without the supportive layers of horsehair or horsetail. There are different variations of wool even within the British Isles which don't make a noticeable difference to the comfort layers so I don't think using New Zealand wool would have any detriment to the mattress.
Looking at your choices of John Lewis mattresses I assume that your comfort preference is more of a medium feel which has a slight sink but not too much. If this is the case, I would recommend looking at our Artisan Bespoke 004 which is 100% natural fibres with a medium feel which you can have the calico pockets springs selected to suit your body weight so that you get the correct level of support.
Bodyweight | Spring tension |
---|---|
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg | Medium (1.4mm) |
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards | Firm (1.6mm) |
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) | Soft (1.2mm) |
As you only sleep on your side and also have hip problems I would also recommend something that has soft upholstery that you can sink into. This would eliminate any pressure pains in your shoulders, hips or knees when sleeping on your side but you would still have support from the correct spring tension. If you would like to consider the soft upholstery have a look at our Artisan Luxury which has upholstery layers utilising horsehair and British wool in a sandwich layout topped off with a blended wool and cotton primary layer.
I hope this is helpful and if you would like any further information or would like to discuss the suitability of any of our mattresses please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.
Kind Regards
Michaela
