Comparing Hypnos 10-turn spring and Vispring double-layer 6-turn spring

Hi,

I read about your review on Hypnos's 10-turn pocket spring, suggesting that 10-turn spring will grow more unstable in the long run. I wonder if 10-turn spring is actually intended to achieve a similar feeling as Vispring's double-layer 6-turn spring (adding up to 12-turn in total) but simply with less cost?

Thank you!

Hi,

Thank you for your question. The Reactive 10 is a 10 turn pocket spring whereas most quality pocket springs have 6 to 8 turns. This allows the springs to compress and extend correctly when the sleeper's body weight is placed on them. Having studied extensively the design and manufacturing methods of springs specifically for mattresses, adding another few turns will allow a spring to compress marginally faster than a spring with fewer turns. However, this can put more stress on the spring because the average length of the pocket springs remains the same to ensure that they compress linearly and don’t simply bend over sideways when a load is applied. These springs may react slightly faster and make them feel a tad bit softer. Longevity needs to be taken into account with these springs as they are spun bonded steel springs.

A dual layer of springs, utilised by ourselves and Vispring, are two half size springs which are the same length as a full spring when stacked. By stacking these smaller springs, they react with each other which creates a softer support and bouncier feel than a full sized spring. One tier of springs will give a more supportive feel than two tiers. These are always calico pocketed vanadium coated springs which are handmade.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

One thing to consider when looking at springs is your height and body weight, this is the load the springs need to support. There is no spring tension (or gauge of the wire used) given for the Hypnos Reactive springs. A medium spring tension - 1.4 mm will support body weights up to 17 stone, depending on your height, and the firm spring - 1.6 mm will support body weights between 17 stone and 23 stone. This will not determine how the mattress feels, only the support required by each sleeper. The upholstery layers on top of the springs determine the comfort or feel of the mattress.

I hope this helps and if you would like any further information or would like to discuss your individual needs, please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards

Michaela
