Comparison to Vi Spring mattress

A customer asked

Hi We recently stayed at a hotel which had the best mattress we had ever slept on. As we need a new mattress anyway we looked to buy this make - VI Spring. However, the cheapest one we can find that looks suitable for our bed (an oak bed with sprung slatted base, slats just under 5cm apart), called the Traditional Bedstead mattress, is £900 which is a bit over our budget. Do you sell, or can you recommend, a similar quality mattress which may be slightly cheaper?

Many thanks, Phil >

Hi Phil.

Your comment is reiterated throughout this entire site. CVI-Spring is indeed a premium mattress manufacturer and it is understandable that you describe your sleep experience as the best you have ever had. As you point out, the Vi Spring Traditional bedstead mattress is the starter model in their entire range. Bear in mind though that one of their high-end models - The "Vi Spring Magnificence" can retail at above £12.000 for a KS mattress only.

Just like our range, there will be many differences between a starter model and a higher end model. If you had provided a model name, I could have indicated what precisely made the mattress you slept on so desirable. It is a testament to the quality of Vi Spring as a company that they (alongside us) are proud to give a full and precise specification of all their mattress models. Try to find another company that does this.

In the meantime, have a look at this readers comment on how to choose between two models of Vi Spring Mattresses. Once you know the model of the mattress you slept on in the hotel we will then be in a position to do a similar like for like breakdown from a mattress within our range.

Hope this helps.

John and Ryan Submitted on 2015/01/04 at 17:31 Hi John and Ryan Many thanks for your reply and apologise for omitting this vital information!

The model of Vi-Spring was the “Quintessential (Firm Springing)” and there was also a “Nimbus Emporium Luxurious Mattress Enhancer”.

I should probably also have mentioned that we both weigh 10-10 1/2 stone.

I have also now read all the other readers comments with interest…look forward to the breakdown.

Thanks again, Phil Hi again Phil.

The topper I am assuming is the Nimbus Emporium Luxury Natural Mattress Topper and from the Landmark Linen Co and is a 85% Duck Feather and 15% Duck Down mix.

Retail price is currently £96.00 for a King Size.

Alternatively, Soak and Sleep have a 100% Duck Feather Duvet at £52 for a King Size.

For roughly the same price as Landmark Linens (£96) Soak and Sleep also have Duck Down Dual Chamber Topper for £99.

This has a total fill weight of around 9500.

The Landmark linen duvet does not mention a fill weight so we do not know whether for the two pounds difference which would be the best buy.

As for the mattress… I’m afraid to say none of us have ever heard of this model.

There is a search thread mentioning Quintessential on the ‘And So To Bed’ website, but no product listings.

This makes sense as ASTB is part of Vi Spring.

I would be inclined to give Vi Spring a call ( 01752 366311 ) and ask them if this model has been discontinued and if so what would be the closest comparison.

Once you get this info drop me a line and we can take it from there.

John and Ryan
