Confused by latex comfort zones

Hi Lee,
I'm confused about the 7 comfort zones on latex mattresses. They only seem (like most pocket spring mattresses too) to be depicted/demonstrated for side sleepers, which makes me think I'm the only back sleeper - obviously not. How do the 7 comfort zones work with a back sleeper? I am concerned about my hips sinking too much and causing an ache in the lower back because of too much lower back support, which I experienced when trying an all natural one - for some time - which was medium - 70ks m3, even though I really liked the mattress. I'm not even sure my hips sank too much but it did feel firmish under the lower back. I believe it was made by Latexco. Could it be a case of getting used to that kind of support? Or perhaps have an additional leyer under my hips. I am 10 stone.
If you could be as specific as you can as to what each zone is for, for back sleeping, i.e. is it a firm zone under the hips or lower back? that would be great! I've also been told that the first 3 zones are the same at each end, which would have the advantage of being able to rotate the mattress. Is this true?
Any thoughts and expertise would be welcome.
Thanks Mario

Hi Mario, and thanks for getting in touch.

In all honesty, the mattress zones and zoning used in latex is nearly always slightly gimmicky. Whilst there is a very slight difference in the tension across the 'zones' most people would never notice it compared to solid latex without the zones. I would argue it bears no difference for a side, back or front sleeper so wouldn't concern yourself too much with it.

The main difference with latex is the construction method/blend and the overall density. As the table below for our Fusion 3 in comparison to a Dunlopillow show.

Fusion 3 Dunlopillo Royal Sovereign
Cover Micro-quilt John Ryan Cover with tape edged damask sides 2cm quilted cover with Actipro
1 5cm 100% 70kg Natural Latex NA
2 18cm 100% 70kg Natural Latex 19cm Latex (Density & blend unknown)
Total Depth 23cm + 3-5 cm for the quilted cover 21cm

Yes, the ends should have the same zoning so you can turn it but in reality, unless everyone is the same height the zones will never truly line up. If the zones where that noticeable there would be plenty of complaints that they don't sit where they should for different heightened sleepers, but since the difference in zones is so minimal there's very little fuss. The only reason we use zones ie because all the latex suppliers use it as a standard it's near impossible to get non zoned latex sadly! I wouldn't actively seek out or discern latex because it had 5 / 7 or 9 zones as its really quite irrelevant in my opinion!

Hope that helps. Lee
