Hi Stephen,
Thank you for your question. All mattresses will settle where you lie the most, and if you don't utilise the entire sleep surface, then you will notice raised areas, this then makes the areas where you do lie, look like they have dipped or sagged, which isn't the case, it's just that the unused area is still brand new and not settled to the same extent as the area where you have lain the most. We recommend turning the mattress once a month for the first 12 months, north to south then east to west alternatively, and then every two to three months thereafter. This will help to even out the settlement of the upholstery layers. Customers of larger size mattresses often describe a 'hump' in the middle of the mattress. This is due to no one sleeping or using the middle of the mattress so the upholstery layers are like new.
The support of a mattress comes from the pocket springs. The correct spring tension is essential if you have back issues as the springs will allow your body to find its own level and not force it into an unnatural position. At your given body weights, the medium spring tension will give you both the correct level of support.
Bodyweight | Spring tension |
---|---|
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg | Medium (1.4mm) |
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards | Firm (1.6mm) |
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) | Soft (1.2mm) |
The upholstery layers, also known as the comfort layers, are there to provide you with a comfortable feel depending on your preferences and your sleep positions. For instance, we do not recommend soft upholstery layers for front and back sleepers as this can cause lower back pain. Likewise, firm upholstery can cause pressure point pain in the shoulder and hips of side sleepers.
Zip and link mattresses are ideal if you have access issues getting the mattress to your room of choice as a large mattress can be very heavy and unwieldy. They also help if motion disturbance is a problem as you are essentially on 2 separate mattresses.
I hope this helps and if you would like any further information or would like to discuss your individual needs, please do not hesitate to give our small friendly team a call on 0161 437 4419.
Kind Regards
Michaela
