Help on choosing mattress for little boy

A customer asked

Hi, i would really appreciate some advice. I am looking to buy a new mattress for my 5 year old boy, he is getting a new single bed and i want to invest in a really comfortable, good quality mattress. I am not sure what is optimal for him though, i'm concerned that a high spring count might be too firm for his body weight, would this be correct?

Or could i balance that out with a mattress topper?

There is a deal just now on Wowcher for: 3000 springs/" title="pocket spring">pocket spring sapphire cashmere (natural) or quartz (memory pocket) mattress for £189, normally £700. This sounds good to me, containing natural, high spring count etc. Please could you give me your opinion on this. I really want to choose the best option. I also planning on buying a double mattress for myself and partner, and so was considering going for the double of this offer too, plus maybe a mattress topper?

Please help as our new beds are coming this week!

Hi Elaine,

There is very little if any information regarding the actual GSM (grams per square metre) in respect of the fillings in the Sapphire mattress making any comparison or opinion upon quality and value impossible. Similarly, with the Quartz mattress, there is little upon which to base an informed opinion.

With regard to pricing, you are unlikely to purchase a good quality single mattress for less than £300.00. As far as the number of springs/" title="pocket spring">pocket spring is concerned, it is not the number but the tension of the spring that determines the firmness. Certainly, for a child, you would initially be looking for a supportive but comfortable mattress and one which is likely to last bearing in mind the likely weight changes that may occur.

For these reasons, I would refer you to our Origins Comfort 1000 mattress, which has soft comfort layers but supportive springs.

Kind regards Mike.
