Thanks for getting in touch about how spring numbers are calculated in mattress sizes.

Spring counts are always based on a kingsize mattress in the industry. This is the universal sizing that all retailers over the years have adopted to show the spring counts. Apt now the kingsize is the mist popular mattress size!

This standard is used to provide consistency so some retailers don't end up quoting super kingsize figures or others quoting the lesser single mattress spring count.

If you're choosing a different size then the spring count will increase and decrease accordingly. One way to work this out if you're interested is to take the measurements of a kingsize mattress and then scale them up or down with the same proportion applied to the spring count. ie if the size increases by 20% then the spring count will too.

This should give you a very rough guess.

To be honest, though, spring counts have been used as a marketing tool for many years. Giving the consumer the wrong impression that the higher the spring count the better the mattress.

To summarise 600 is the lowest amount of pocket springs in a kingsize mattress and around 2000-3000 is the maximum (often using a dual layer of pocket springs to achieve it). Anything above this will use either micro or HD springs which pretty much only there to increase the spring count and not the mattresses comfort, support or quality.
