A customer asked

Hi
I would really appreciate your advice. We have a pillow top Hypnos Mattress which is the one you can purchase from premier inn. We have this mattress on a slatted bed frame.
Due to our working patterns I sleep in the bed myself often but try to sleep on both sides to even up the use.
We have found that after 2 months the mattress is sloping to the middle. My girlfriend weighs about 4 stone lighter than me.
I appreciate that with weight there will be some sloping, but is there anything you can suggest to counter this.
We really can't afford a new mattress.
Could I add more slats of even size so the support is in effect a flat surface. I have seen some posts on putting pillows or sheets under the mattress, but would this work on a slatted bed?
Any help or advice would be fantastic

Hi Ben,

We would always recommend placing a barrier between the slats and the mattress and would suggest using 2-3mm of MDF sheeting. This will provide a uniform surface upon which the mattress can sit and prevent it ridging.

Unfortunately, with a pillow top mattress, once the top flattens you will need to replace the mattress rather than just the topper. In addition, pillow top mattresses are only one sided and this too can have an effect on the longevity.

Kind regards Mike.
