Is a Firm mattress right for me?

A customer asked

Hi, I previously had the artisan mattress, initially I had the medium, but felt it was too soft for me, I then changed it to a firm one within the 60 day guarantee, but still didn’t really get on with it, I would wake up stiff each morning.I changed last year to a Simba mattress and instantly felt more comfortable, however, 9 months later and I have started developing pins and needles in my arms and legs, and think it maybe mattress related.I have a history of neck problems, which results in these type of symptoms. I’m a side/front sleeper, I’m 6 foot 2 and weigh just under 14 stone.I’ve noticed that you now do a medium/firm tension, which may be a good compromise for me.Any thoughts will be appreciated.ThanksMark

Hi Mark,

Thank you for your enquiry.

The medium/firm tension on our website is for dual spring tension mattresses. One half of the mattress is a medium spring tension and the other half has firm springs. This is designed for people of different body weights to give them both the correct level of support. At your body weight, we would recommend a medium spring tension, you do not weigh enough to compress a firm spring tension. The only thing giving you support with a firm spring tension is the upholstery layers.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

You do not state which Artisan model you previously had but if you like a firm mattress then you should look for something that has firm comfort layers.  However for someone suffering from neck pain, we would recommend something with a medium upholstery also because you are a side/ front sleeper we would say a medium feel would best suit you.

I hope this is helpful and if you would like any further advice please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards
