A customer asked

Hi,
We are currently looking to buy a superking mattress to fit on an Oakfurnitureland slatted oak bed frame, but would like some advise. We both prefer a softer feel to a bed, rather than a firm, non forgiving bed, but want to make sure that, given we are placing the mattress on a slatted frame, we get the right feel.
My wife is (and she will kill me for this!), around the 11 stone mark (and 5' 4"), and I am 11.5 stone (5' 8"). The budget is not the important factor here, more so, getting the right feel and the best quality of mattress. Perhaps you could suggest some options for us please.
Thanks and best regards
Mark - PS: love the site.

Hi Mark,

The first thing to say is that whatever mattress is placed on your bed frame will feel firmer than expected, for instance, if you order a medium tension it will feel more like a medium to firm tension. I note that you are both in the 11 to 12 stone weight bracket and prefer a softer feel. Before recommending any products from our range, I would advise that when the bed base is assembled, you should place some thin (3-5mm) MDF or pegboard over the slats to provide the mattress with a uniform surface upon which to sit. This will prevent the mattress from ridging as a result of sitting directly on the slats.

As you are looking for quality, I would suggest you view the mattresses in our Artisan range and in particular the Artisan Luxury, which is softer feel mattress.

Please call our office to receive more specific advice as to the suitability of the product for your requirements. Kind regards Mike.
