My Hypnos mattress on an open coil base is sagging after 6 months use is this normal?

Hi John, I bought a Hypnos mattress and open coil sprung base. After 6 months of use, despite weekly rotation/turning, I'm starting to get neck pain and it feels my hips sink while my shoulders don't, hence it builds pressure there. As it was fine during the first 6 months, I'm assuming it's due to the way it's settling. What can I do to remedy it? Mattress is made from wool cotton hemp and allo/kapok blends. Medium tension 1400 springs. Thanks!

Hi Dimitry,

Thank you for your question. Without knowing the GSM of the upholstery fibres it is difficult to say what level of comfort your mattress has but at a guess, I would say it has a medium level of comfort. This should have some cushioning in the top layers for your shoulders and hips to sink into.

How do you sleep? Side sleepers need either soft or medium comfort depending on your comfort preferences and front and back sleepers need either medium or firm upholstery layers. If you sink in too much when sleeping on your back it raises your ankles and neck which puts pressure on your lower back and neck causing pain in these areas. If you are a side sleeper I would recommend adding a mattress topper to give your shoulders a little more cushioning. If you are a back sleeper then you may need to board over your base which is cushioning the mattress or add a firm mattress topper to stop you from sinking in too much.

What are your care instructions for your Hypnos mattress? For our mattresses turning them weekly does not give the upholstery layers time to rest and regain some loft. We recommend turning our mattresses over monthly for the first year and then every two to three months which evens out the settlement of the upholstery layers and prolongs the lifespan of the mattress.

I hope this helps and if you would like to discuss your individual needs please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards

Michaela
