Lynda

My partner and myself are looking for a mattress which would suit us both. My weight is 17 stone and my partner's weight is 11.5 stone. She suffers from neck and shoulder pain which we suspect may be at least partly due to our current mattress. Could you recommend a mattress for us. Thanks

Hi Lynda,

Thanks for your question.

Sorry to hear your partner is suffering from shoulder and neck pain from your current mattress.

Given the weight differences between you and your partner, you ideally need either a split tension or a Zip and Link mattress.

If not you're going to end up with the following potential scenarios which may have led to the shoulder pain:

  1. A mattress that's too firm for her
  2. A mattress that's too soft for you
  3. A mattress that's neither suitable to you both

Ideally, I'd need to know the type of feel you both prefer in the top upholstery or comfort layers of the mattress and budget to help narrow down the advice. I'm basing this advice on a medium feel in the upholstery layer.

At 17 stone you would be on a firm spring to support your body weight and your partner on a medium spring tension.

This can be achieved in our Origins range with the Origins 1500 in a split tension between 1500 and 2000 springs in a Zip and Link. It will look and act as one mattress, but one-half is firmer than the other. The top layer will have a medium feel. The Zip and Link will give you 2 separate mattresses that zip together in the middle.

If your budget stretches to the Artisan range then there's a number of options to choose from and you can have this in a one piece mattress. Have a look at the Artisan Naturals, which is a good true medium feeling model providing a slight sink into the top layer but not too much.

Please come back to us at your earliest convenience in order to discuss this further on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards, Lee.
