Peter Tresadern

Hi,
I am 19 stone and 5'7" and suffer from backache and stiffeness if I stay in bed much beyond 6 or 7 hours. Hard beds kill my back.
My wife is5'3" and 12 stone and sleeps like a log anywhere!!
Our current bed is a standard double Relyon "rest" pillowtop probably abut 10 years old. Our bedroom could take a Kingsize at a pinch with some alterations
We have looked at Hypnos Beds in the Regency Range and also Dunlopillo as replacements then I came across your site and have spent many hours into the early morning reading what is extremely informative.
My eye went to the Artisan Range as a possible replacement. Would you agree with this and which model and size?
I read that you always advise a remonable topper. Which one (or ones) would you recommend for the bed (or beds) that you recommend.
Finally, is there anywhere we can see or test the mattresses
Many Thanks

Hi Peter,

I am pleased to hear that our site provided you with good reading matter even in the early hours. Your current body weights would dictate that you have a split tension mattress, firm for you and medium for your wife, however, I do note that you are not a fan of hard (firm) beds. We do not sell or recommend pillow top mattresses because that method or combination in construction can have a detrimental effect on the longevity of the product and I am surprised that you have managed to get 10 years of your current Relyon mattress.

Unfortunately, due to the fact that the published details of the Hypnos and Dunlopillo ranges is vague in the extreme, it is impossible to provide a comment as to performance or suitability or to provide a comparison. Having said that, our Artisan range is highly competitive in terms of price and represent excellent value for money for mattresses containing natural fibres in the upholstery and calico encased pocket springs. Some of the products in this range are comparable to some Vi-Spring models, Vi-spring being another reputable manufacturer of mattresses.

Returning to the question of the most appropriate mattress for you both from the Artisan range, I would suggest that you look at the Artisan Bespoke, which although available in soft, medium and firm spring tensions, does provide the firmest feel in the whole range. I would recommend that you go for the medium spring tension and refrain from purchasing a topper until you have had the product for at least 14 days in order to allow your bodies to get used to the change.

We are internet based and do not have a show room where you can try our products, although the comparable mattress, in feel, is the Vi-Spring Herald and these can be tried at a number of outlets nation wide. Please note that we do provide a 30 day "love it or return it" guarantee which provides you with some level of comfort for purchasing on the internet. This is not a try before you buy option as we endeavour to match the mattress to the customer and in 96% of case we get this spot on, which why we are confident to offer the guarantee.

I trust that this helps, but if you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to call our office.

Kind regards
