Hello there! My mum has recently moved into a residential home and the mattress on her bed is causing her to have sore hips, NOT pressure sores as she is quite mobile, but she is frail, only weighs 7 stone, and has had one hip replacement and has pins and screws in the other. The home has tried to see if the NHS will provide a different mattress but the response has been that my mum is not classed as 'high risk', ie. she is not vulnerable to pressure sores yet! Consequently, the home and myself are totally at a loss as to the best mattress for her. She suffers with dementia and gets very distressed if I take her out, so going out to try different mattresses is not possible, so It will be a case of trying really hard to find her the best solution without much input from her.
