A customer asked

Hi, Me and my partner are looking for a kingsize divan bed.

We have previously looked at Sensaform 5000 £799 from Bensons.

My partner suffers from back pain, can you recommend any decent divan beds out there on the market at the minute as we don't understand all the jargon and to be perfectly honest don't know where to start.

Price range £500-£800.

Many thanks Sam .

Hi, Sam.

We completely understand your frustration. This whole site goes into detail about the jargon and where to start. A good post to get started to decode the mattress jargon is this one.

The Sensaform only gives partial detail most of which is useless in terms of actual comparison. For example, 'Active' springs makes no real sense, all springs should be active ie not fully compressed when using them. Dynamic border perimeter control simply means that there's perimeter support something that all sprung mattresses should have. All ours do more on that on this springs post.

The Sensafoam has no technical specifications such as density or hardness ratings so again it makes it impossible to accurately compare I'm afraid. You can read more on foam densities here.

We appreciate it is a lot to take in but by reading some our posts it should help clarify the murky mattress waters! We are quite proud of our product range and will always advise you look at our models to give you a starting point. Our most popular models in each range are the Origins 1500, the Artisan Naturals and the Fusion 3. You can then use these as the basis for all comparisons.

How much to spend on a double mattress? What can I expect for my money?
Under £500 Will not get you much at best a 13.5 gauge open coil/cage sprung with a thin polyester layer or a solid foam mattress.
£500 Entry level spunbond springs with some form of synthetic upholstery. Usually one sided mattresses.
£750 The beginnings of a basic pocket springs unit with 800 – 1000 count. No substantial amount of filling other than foams and synthetic materials. Two sided models.
£1000 Should get you away from most low ranges and into the mid-range pocket spring models.
£1250 Should get you a decent pocket sprung mattress with some Natural Fibre content.
£1500 Should get you many manufacturers mid-range models with Natural Fibres
£1500-£2000 Should get you a Hand Made primarily Natural Fibre Quality Mattress
£2000+ You should expect 100% Natural Fibres and Traditional Hand Made Construction Method.
£5000+ A Bespoke Hand Made Sleep System, High-end Spring Units & Featuring the Worlds Most Luxurious Natural Fibres.
