A customer asked

John and Ryan,
I live in Canada and have the opportunity to purchase a North American King Size bed 76" x 80" (the Savoy No. 2 made by Savoir beds). This bed in New York (where Savoir has store) retails for approximately 34k US dollars with the topper included. The bed is unused and is a zip and link with the box spring also included. It has been in storage for 7 years and is in it's original packaging. This particular bed does not have a topper and one would be approximately 4k from Savoir in New York. So my total investment including the topper would be half of retail.
I have obvious reservations about purchasing a bed without trying and am concerned that my wife will not like it! I would never hear the end of it if this were the case. My dilemma is obvious - I can get a Number 2 bed at half retail. My belief is that this is a "lifetime bed" due to the advertised 60 hours of craftsmanship. Do you have any thoughts on my quandary? If I'm bonkers please let me know.
Regards,
Kyle

Hi Kyle,

Thanks for your question.

I fully understand you quandary, particular in making sure you make the right decision as far as your wife is concerned, however, I would confirm, as you are no doubt aware, that Savoir are a very reputable manufacturer of mattresses. Having said that, when making the size of investment that you are contemplating, I too would be very cautious.

My main reservation is that, although in its original packaging, you do not know the conditions of storage nor the way in which it has been stored. With all products which contain natural upholstery, storage is important and particularly as it has been there for 7 years.

Is there anywhere you can try Savoir beds? Even if you can, the manufacturing process and construction may have changed in the time that this product has been in storage, so new ones may not feel like the one you are considering purchasing.

You will need to ask some pertinent questions of the seller :- How has it been stored (upright, on the side or flat)? What are the specifications in terms of springs, including tension, upholstery layers? and how is it to be transported should you decide to buy. I hope that this is of help to you and please let me know how you get on.

I hope this has answered your questions fully but if you do have any further queries please don't hesitate to contact our office on 0161 437 4419. Our office is open Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm and Saturday and Sunday 10am to 4pm.

Kind Regards, Mike.
