A customer asked

Hi I would like some advice please. My wife and I will be moving soon and will buy a new bed, we are not small people my wife is 18 st and I am 14. We have a 7 month old baby who occasionally shares our bed for this reason we would like a SK size bed but have been advised that getting a SK mattress into a lot of bedrooms can prove difficult and as we might move a few times in the next few years thought a Zip and Lock Mattress would solve this problem. We want a solid wood sleigh bed, which at a guess will be slatted, we think that we like firm to medium springs but like the top layer to be soft and welcoming - any ideas???

Hi Jon,

I would recommend either Artisan models - Naturals or Bespoke.

2 Hairproof Cambric Cover Hairproof Cambric Cover

4 1500gsm 100% Pure Mohair 1000gsm Bonded British Fleece Wool and Cotton
5 1600 Calico encased Pocket Springs [ 49mm ] [1.28mm ] 1720 Calico encased Pocket Springs [48mm ] [1.28mm ]
Total GSM 3950gsm 3100gsm

John Ryan By Design Artisan Bespoke Vi-Spring Herald Superb
1 500gsm British Wool 1200gsm Blended British Fleece Wool & Cotton
2 1200gsm Blended British Fleece Wool and Cotton NA
3 Hairproof Cambric Cover Hairproof Cambric Cover
4 1200gsm Pure Horsetail NA
5 1200gsm Horsehair 1200gsm Horsehair
6 1000gsm White Cashmere Insulator 1000gsm British Fleece Wool
7 1600 Calico encased Pocket Springs [49mm] [1.28mm] 1476 Calico encased Pocket Springs [51mm] [Gauge: 1.42mm]
Total GSM 5100gsm 3400gsm

These give you the option of having each half tailor made to your precise bodyweights.

Generally your wife would be looking at medium tension springs (1.42mm) and a firm spring for you (1.60mm).

The top layers should indeed be soft and welcoming on all mattresses but this should be coupled with adequate [and correct] support.

Your sleigh bed will most probably be slatted.

If you have a choice a solid slat construction will be better than sprung slats for these models but dont worry unduly over this.

The important part is that you will have to add a mattress pad of sorts on the slats to protect the upholstery on the underside of the mattress.

We can also make either of the two mattresses in a zip and link pair.

If you have any further questions please give the office a call on 0161 437 4419

John and Ryan.
