Sprung Bed Base for Bed Frame
Hi, we’ve got an And So to Bed sleigh bed frame which cost a fair bit. Happy to change it but I’m defo a style over substance type and can’t find a divan base I like, I need a higher food board as I can’t bear the quilt slipping off the end of the bed at night but the solution being tucking it under at the foot end sadly doesn’t work either, I don’t like the restriction around my feet ... I arrive at any hotel and immediately ‘untuck’ the covers!
So, it makes sense to keep our frame. And in my research and mainly your site, where you mention a bed pad prototype, I found these, Seventh Heaven - Bed Bases for Antique Beds.
What do you think?
Hi Michaela,
Many thanks for your question on base pads for bed frames. Sorry to hear you're struggling with your And so to bed Sleigh bed frame.
Antique beds can be gorgeous but one of the main drawbacks is that the base itself is often poorly slatted with large gaps between the slats. If you've read our site you'll know that these gaps for bed slats should never be more than 2 inches apart as they start to damage the mattress. This is because the mattress starts to conform and get forced between the gaps over time damaging it. See below for an example.
You could add the seventh heaven base pad, which is like a mini mattress over the top of the slats. Though realistically the base pads going to suffer damage just like the mattress if the slats are too far apart or not supportive enough. A pain I know! We don't sell base pads, for this reason, they are only a temporary fix to the problem.
Bed frames with the best mattress support
The ideal solution is to buy a bed frame that features an upholstered base pad built into it rather than slats. This is when the skat element is completely removed and replaced with a solid upholstered platform top, a bit like a divan. So you get the best of both worlds. A gorgeous bed frame but also a suitable support system for your mattress!
If you're looking for a bed frame with a foot board have a look at our Chesterfield hand made bed frame. It features a fully upholstered internal base pad and zero slats. The Rolltop Foot End Height is 71cm to stop that duvet issue you've described.
You can view all of our bed bases, bed frames and divans here too.
We hope that helps and if you have any more mattress related questions please get back in touch on info@localhost or 0161 437 4419.
