Ventilation of ottoman base
Are any of your platform top ottoman bases ventilated?
Hi Ariana,
Many thanks for your question about Ottoman bases.
We've actually had to stop making Ottoman bases as we can't find gas struts heavy enough anymore to support our hand made mattresses. As they have so many fillings inside them which is a real shame. We do still have a few left with the previous heavy-duty gas struts in our outlet though. We're still looking for better struts but for now, won't be offering them in our shop.
As for ventilation, all mattress bases are breathable so you don't need ventilation holes per se if that's what you mean? Or do you mean bedroom ventilation such as opening a window to allow fresh air to circulate? Which you should do periodically with any mattress to ensure you don't end up with damp.
Coupled with the fact you should be turning and rotating your mattress monthly there no need to add ventilation holes or such to a mattress base. The castors or glides keep the base off the floor allowing air to flow around it. Just like your sofa you shouldn't need any further ventilation mechanisms.
Ventilation is a key part of mattress maintenance though - we have a guide here to help you - and making sure that there's sufficient airflow to keep any humidity in check with any bed.

All the best
