Vispring Devonshire Mattress Tension Vs Comfort

Hi,
Hope you can help.
We have a Vispring Devonshire Medium Mattress. It is fine for me at 84kg could be a little softer but ok. But my wife has started struggling with her back and hips she’s 70kg. So I recently purchased the Woolroom Chatsworth mattress wool topper and it has stopped my wife’s back pains and she’s happy with it but it is not working for me, I have neck pains now and don’t feel like I am supported by the mattress anymore.
So, I would like to know is it the medium spring tension causing the issue or lack of more soft padding on top of the mattress?
I don’t particularly want a mattress topper. Is there a medium mattress that will feel much softer on top?
Could you recommend one of your mattresses and could you recommend what the Vispring alternative option would be other than the Devonshire one (or would a soft Devonshire work for us)?
Apologies for all the random questions. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Laurie

Hi Laurie,

Thank you for your question. Your current Vispring Devonshire mattress has a soft upholstery similar in comfort to our Artisan Luxury. The Vispring Devonshire upholstery is layers of British wool whereas we have sandwiched the wool and cotton layers of the Artisan Luxury with layers of horsehair and horsetail to help the mattress retain it's loft for longer and prevent it from settling too quickly. This is ideal for side sleepers as there is plenty of cushioning for your shoulders and hips that need to push into the upholstery layers.

The medium is the spring tension which is correct to support both of your body weights and you would not get support from the soft spring tension.  Vispring has the soft spring tension which will support bodyweights up to 69 kg. We discontinued the soft spring tension some time ago as customers of very light bodyweight were returning the mattresses to us as they felt that the springs were not supportive enough.

Artisan Spring Tension Weight Range
Soft Available as a Bespoke Product (Please Call)
Medium Upto 16 stone / 101kg
Firm Over 16 stone / 101kg

How old is your Vispring Devonshire mattress? If your mattress is relatively new, ie under 12 months old, the upholstery layers can take up to 2 years to reach final settlement and may still be softening. Adding a mattress topper during this time will provide additional comfort. The Wool topper you have which has a depth of 4 - 5 cm will only give a slightly softer overall feel to your mattress. Although adding a mattress topper seems to have helped your wife have a more comfortable night's sleep, not so for you. Neck pain usually indicates that the upholstery layers are too soft and you are sinking in too much. What are your sleep positions? We do not recommend soft upholstery for front and back sleepers as this can cause lower back and neck pain. I would recommend moving the topper over to your wife's side of the bed, leaving you using just the mattress upholstery which should give you a soft but supportive feel.

What type of base do you have? The Vispring Devonshire, like our Artisan range of mattresses, is designed for a pocket-sprung base. If you tried this mattress in a showroom, which would have already been softened by the hundreds of potential customers trying it each week, will have been displayed on this type of base. Putting it onto a platform or slatted base will firm up the internal support of the mattress.

I hope this helps and if you would like any further information or would like to discuss your individual needs, please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards
Michaela
