What tension mattress for different bodyweights?

A customer asked

Hi, I purchased a metal frame with sprung slats and am in the market for the right Kingsize mattress to complement our sizes. I am 5ft 9" and weight 14 st 3lb and my wife is 5ft 1" and weighs 7st 5lb!

Whichever mattress I choose is too hard for my wife and anything soft does not provide me much support. I have a budget of between £600-700 and am not sure if I am overly focusing on having 2000 springs (the max in a Kingsize) to ensure even coverage, but then not finding the right layer above it to provide us both with the right support!

With my size in particular should I be looking for a medium or firm as retailers err towards a firm, whereas I hear a medium firm would be ideal for my weight!

Please advise. >

Hi Raj.

I thoroughly understand the dilemma.

There is no way that one mattress will be right for you both - there is too great a weight difference for it to do so.

This is why you are finding this to be a difficult purchase.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

Your wife at around 8st does not require or need the support that you do.

The second part to this is your budget.

We start our dual tension models at The Artisan 1500 level (£965.00 for a kingsize Nov 2018) where your wife can have a soft spring tension and you can have medium.

Kind Regards Gary
