Which bedframe do you recommend?

A customer asked

Hi, I will be refurbishing my bedroom soon and intend to buy my bed from you, but have some questions regarding a decent base. I noticed you advocate a bedframe rather than a divan base as a long term measure, or to choose an ottoman base over a standard storage base. I think I also read that you may also supply bedframes in the future?

Can you tell me if you still plan to sell frames and if not can you recommend how to choose a quality frame please?

Thanks, Jane Liverpool.

Hi Jane,

Thank you for your enquiry.  We have recently released a range of high-quality Ottoman bases made to our exacting standards. As you can imagine there are literally hundreds of suppliers, and it is as equally frustrating trying to find the right products at the right price. Which is why we have written this detailed article telling you everything you need to know about ottoman bases here.

Most bed frames are imported (China and Malaysia) being favourite and established countries of origin. The quality is acceptable as is the price.
For quality and craftsmanship, the UK is still the best but of course, the price will reflect this. There should be no reason to avoid imports but always bear in mind that a £99 frame will consist of the cost of the item, the manufacturers mark up, the import duty, the retailers mark up and the VAT (£20 !!) you just could not reasonably expect an item like this to be deemed as long-lasting.

On a final note, metal bedframes (particularly cheap ones) will, within a very short period of time become creaky and shaky. The fittings used to attach the side rails to the head and footboard is inherently flawed. Ryan and I would not sell any metal bedframes unless the connection fittings were adequate in design to withstand the use a bed usually takes. As we start looking for bed frames, we shall be adding relevant posts detailing what we find.

However, remember that imported goods come a long way and pass through many careless hands. Ensure your purchase is backed by a decent level of return policy for damaged goods. You should not bear the cost of this.

Kind Regards
