A customer asked

Hi I came across your website on line and must thank you for your no nonsense advice.

Very much appreciated.

I am looking to buy two beds as me and my sister have just bought our first property and the first priority is to get our beds.

We are quite happy to sit on the floor to watch tv but we must have a nice night of sleep.

For my bed I have a budget of around £1000-1200 for matress, base (with drawers, pref 4) and headboard.

I would like a kingsize if possible and weigh 9 stones.

I would like a matress with natural fibres if possible but to be honest my priority is a comfy mattress and one which will last so I will not have to invest again in the near future.

I like a mattress which has a soft feel as my current one has a hard fibre exterior which I dislike.

My sister's budget is smaller and she would like a base and mattress for around £500-600 if at all possible.

She is about 10 stones and wants a double.

She would prob like the cheaper versio of what I have set out above.

Thank you in advance.

Hi Amy,

Thank you for your question.

No doubt about it that The Origins Comfort 1000 would be an ideal choice for you both actually.  This mattress is made up of man made fillings but does have a soft comfort layer ideal for what you both require together with a medium spring tension which will give you both the support you need.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

John Ryan By Design Origins Comfort
1 750gsm Very Soft Polyester
2 500gsm Polyester Pad
3 One Inch Foam Insulator Layer
4 1000 Spun Bond Pocket Springs

Your requirement for natural fibres coupled with your available budget will not get you a 100% natural mattress.  You will have to make some sort of compromise. If you take the Artisan Naturals as an example, the mattress (Kingsize) alone is just over a £1,000 for the mattress only.  However, this does have an element of polyester (600 grams) used to bond the cotton fibres together.

Although a sprung edged base is perfect for all mattresses, I would be inclined to look at an ottoman storage base in order to keep within your budget and as you require as much storage as possible.   It is good practice to invest in the mattress and compromise on the base rather than the other way around.

I hope this is of assistance to you but please do not hesitate to contact our office on 0161 437 4419 for further information or advice.

Kind regards Julie
