Why is my Idyll 1000 mattress causing back pain, sore shoulders and hips when not even 3 years old?

I don't understand why suddenly my firm gel memory mattress bought in November 2021 has become a nightmare to sleep in causing back pain, sore shoulders and hips every night for the past 2 months. I wake up with back pain during the night, about 3-4 hours in, requiring painkillers, on top of the ones I take prior to bed at the advice of my GP. When the painkillers work on the back pain, I'm now aware of waking up in the morning with either a sore hip or shoulder needing me to turn over. I'm a side sleeper weighing 9 stone, allergic to latex. This mattress has a 10 year guarantee. I can find very little information online about this brand, only 6 reviews available. The retailer at this stage is only interested in sagging and that's not the problem, but something is. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Charlie,

Thank you for your question. I haven't been able to find much information regarding your Idyll 1000 mattress other than it is a firm density memory foam hybrid mattress with 1000 pocket springs, no spring tension given, in a kingsize mattress. All spring counts are given for a kingsize.

Your shoulder and hip pain tells us that the mattress is too firm for you and causing pressure pains. As a side sleeper, you need cushioning for your shoulders and hips to sink into. It may be that you are pivoting on these areas which is putting pressure on your lower back. Memory foam requires pressure and body heat to be able to mould to you. At your light body weight, you are not applying much pressure making the mattress feel firmer for you than for someone with a larger body weight. Adding a mattress topper such as the soft density Laygel mattress topper or soft memory foam topper to your mattress will provide additional comfort and allow your shoulders and hips to sink in without changing the way the mattress works.

I hope this helps and if you would like any further information or would like to discuss your individual needs please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards

Michaela
