When we moved in just over 5 years ago we 'splashed out' on an IKEA Hyllestad mattress. We found it immensely comfy at first, but for the past few months I've been waking up with crippling mid-back pain that feels like I've been punched in the side/ribs (side sleeper). We suspect the mattress may be the culprit as it has a lot of give in the middle!

I always assumed the 25 year 'Guarantee' was basically meaningless (unless it literally falls apart) but was a bit disappointed the mattress seems to have only lasted 5 years. I'm assuming the foam top has aged and is what's 'punching me in the side' during the night?

How long would you expect one of your mattresses to last under similar conditions (I'm 6', ~13st)? I notice the Guarantees vary from only a few years up to 10-ish.

Are fibre toppings more hard-wearing than mattress foam? We're open to 'investing' in a pricier mattress but we'd want it to outlast our previous one!
