Will a Sprung Divan help to soften my mattress?
I recently bought an Ikea Hokkasen medium firm mattress. It was very comfortable in the shop and I tried it for a long time. At home I have it on a basic slatted base and it feels far too firm and uncomfortable. I asked the shop what it was on in the showroom and they said on a slatted divan base. I asked about putting it on a sprung divan base and was told this would 'work against' the springs in the mattress. They recommended buying sprung adjustable slats to fit to my existing bed frame. I am not sure if this would make a sufficient difference.
Which divan base should I get to give the mattress a softer feel? I am convinced it is the base that is the problem.

Good afternoon Rob,
Thank you for your question.
Spring edging can be looked upon as a mini mattress between the main mattress and the base. It offers a progressive support that dampens the strain of weight from the user. This significantly improves the overall comfort level of a mattress. This difference in comfort is often described as ‘Softer’ when compared to a Platform top divan equivalent.
The use of a sprung edged base also has the tendency to increase the lifespan of the mattress. The theory being that the actual springs inside the mattress are sharing the load with a further set of springs within the base.
Our Artisan Sprung Bases offer the ultimate in mattress base design. Providing an even more luxurious responsive feel to your mattress.
