John Ryan Takes the Leap for Charity!

We’re thrilled to share some exciting high flying news with you all!

Last weekend Ryan and Jonathon embarked on a thrilling adventure, taking part in a heart-pounding skydive to raise funds for The Christie.

At John Ryan we place a great emphasis on our commitment to our local community and our staff.

Our team is a blend of family members, friends, and experts that we are fortunate to work with. We prioritise our staff wellbeing, because we know that a happy team is a productive team that can achieve great things.

It’s a sad fact that a great many people will encounter a fight with cancer, either for themselves or for a loved one. This has been the case in our team too. All of us at John Ryan have been personally affected by this awful disease at some point.

We may be experts in all things mattress, but this unfortunately doesn’t make us Cancer fighting heroes so we had to find the next best thing, let’s help the people that do make a difference.

We chose to support The Christie Hospital.

A remarkable charity based in Manchester, dedicated to revolutionising the fight against cancer.

Founded over a century ago, The Christie is one of Europe’s leading cancer centers, providing outstanding care, treatment, and research. Their pioneering work not only transforms the lives of cancer patients but also contributes to advancements in medical science, offering hope to countless individuals and families affected by this relentless disease.

With a fire in our belly (and possibly a couple of pints) Jono and I decided we would take up the challenge of a Skydive to help raise money for this great cause. As the day approached the nerves really began to set in! What was once an idea in the distant future became all too real as the day arrived. With family and friends along for the event we anxiously drove to the airfield in Lancashire.

Thankfully once we arrived our nerves soon dissipated under the expert guidance of instructors at the Black Knights Skydiving Centre. We had amazing weather and you can see from the smiles on our faces what a fantastic day we had.

Experiencing a skydive is like stepping into a realm where time slows down and every sense is heightened.

As you take the leap the initial moment of freefall is nothing short of exhilarating/terrifying. Like being in a washing machine but with a man strapped to your back.

Then, as the parachute deploys and the descent slows, the roar of the wind is replaced by a near silence, and then we were floating effortlessly through the sky, taking in the breathtaking Lancashire countryside. Time seems to stand still, until very quickly the ground rushes up to meet you and you have to remember your training from that morning.

We both enjoyed ourselves so much, and knowing it was for The Christie was the icing on the cake.

In total we raised over £2000 pound between us.

We had a fantastic shared experience, and gave a little back to our community.

We are keen to get out there and see if we can make some more money for charity – we are open to suggestions!?
