The firmness of the mattress you desire is determined by a few factors. Your weight and height, and the mattress of your choice. The upholstery layers are the very top comfort layers and give different degrees of firmness alongside the spring unit which should be chosen based on your weight.
The Artisan 1500 has a medium feel in the top upholstery layer giving both support and comfort from the Comfort layers. This model uses a High-End Cashmere insulator layer, 1200GSM, between the Pocket Spring unit and the Comfort Layers for that true luxury feel.
The use of Rebound Poly-Cotton (RPC) and polyester provides this model with a medium feel with a huge amount of upholstery for both comfort and support. This combination contributes greatly towards the overall feel and longevity of the mattress providing loft & resilience.
The final layer of 500 gsm Wool is a premium product used to boost the overall quality of this mattress. More weight could have been gained by using polyester but this usage would deteriorate the overall value. Meaning that the final Comfort Layer of this mattress is 100% Wool for both breathability and softness.
The springs are the component which enabled us to build to a specific price point. Same spring material as used in the Calico units – just the housing is different to keep the Artisan 1500 at this competitive price point. They are available in 3 different spring tensions depending on your body weight and height.
The upholstery quantity and quality is among the best you can get for this budget. There is a massive combined upholstery weight of 4300 GSM of which 53% are Natural Fibres.

Communication was clear, the mattress was delivered on time (maybe even a little sooner) and the mattress is brilliant! The mattress is firm, just what we’d wanted, although it weighs a ton so turning it is an adventure 😁 note I’ve only had it a month, time will tell if it lasts,but I’m feeling confident.

Very helpful from start to finish. Both my husband and I have slipped discs and spondiolithesis (spelling?!), and have never had a bed comfortable for both our needs, until now. Good advice from sales staff prior to purchase, order turned around quicker than estimated. Delivery firm (keen & Able) very good. We paid extra for the recycling of our old mattress which we thought was worth the peace of mind that it wouldn’t end up in landfill or fly-tipped!
Mattress seems to be good quality and comfortable, we’re still in the bedding in stage right now so time will ultimately tell.
