Advice: Origins Comfort or Origins Pocket 1500

Mrs Pinch asked
13th January 2017

My current mattress was purchased from Franklins bedside Manor. It is a Silverdale 1700 hand tied nested pocket spring, hand tufted with comfort filling inc cashmere & silk. The mattress is on a quality wooden sprung base bedstead with a mattress protector. Although i was told it would feel quite firm on my base it is incredibly uncomfortable to the point that i feel it is giving me pressure sores. My weight generally varies between 10-11 stone & although i need support i also want something that feels soft underneath my joints so i don’t feel sore. I have been looking at your Origins Comfort & Origins Pocket 1500 range as i am on a budget but have a couple of concerns. Firstly they seem much deeper than my current mattress so worried my fitted sheets won’t fit especially if i also need a mattress topper as well & also slightly worried that the polyester top may make me sweat. Any advise & what would you recommend?

Hello Mrs Pinch,

Thank you for your enquiry.

With your particular body weight, we would suggest that a medium spring tension/feel mattress is most appropriate for you. Both the Origins Comfort 1000 and the Origins Pocket 1500 have a standard medium tension spring unit with the Comfort having softer man made upholstery layers and both are around 28-30 cm deep.

Of the two and from what you disclose, it seems that the Comfort 1000 matches your requirements best due it to being the softer of the 2 models, although the difference between them is minimal. Although the Comfort does contain a layer of polyester it does not generate heat. However, we can’t guarantee that you won’t overheat as this is different from person to person.

As far as fitted sheets are concerned, we would advise that you will need to buy extra deep fitted sheets and these are available through most high street retailers. As for a topper, we would recommend that you use your mattress for at least 4-6 weeks by itself before deciding upon whether one is required. If at this stage you are finding it too firm then add a topper from somewhere like Soak and Sleep. We simply ask that you use a standard mattress protector under our 60 day love it or return it guarantee to protect the mattress.

This is because it can take that long for your body to get used to the feel of your new mattress and if you buy one at the same time as your mattress, it may turn out to be an unnecessary expense.

We trust that this helps, but if you require any further advice or guidance, please call our office on 0161 413 2268. We are open Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm and Saturday and Sunday 10am to 4pm.

Kind Regards, John and Ryan.
