TAKE OUR MATTRESS QUIZ

Which bed base / frame to buy

Lindy asked

I have bought a good quality Hypnos pocket sprung kingsize mattress (medium support), and now need to buy a suitable bed base / frame for it.
I would like a base/ frame with 2 storage drawers and a headboard, for no more than £500. Can you please advise me whether a slatted / solid bed frame or a solid/sprung divan base would be most comfortable and suitable for this type of mattress. It’s all rather confusing!

Hi Lindy,

Thanks for your question.

The difficulty with providing advice as to the most suitable base for your Hypnos mattress is that they do not disclose full details of construction and upholstery for any of their models.

Having said that our Artisan range of mattresses are paired with a true edge sprung base to provide that extra level of comfort.

These can be supplied with either 2, 4 or a combination of 2 continental and 2 full size drawers.

If you do opt for a slatted base, then I would suggest that you place some form of barrier, usually 3-5mm MDF, between the mattress and the base to provide a uniform surface upon which the mattress can sit and prevent ridging occurring as a result of the mattress dipping into the gaps between the slats.

If you require any further advice regarding our bases please call our office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards, Lee.
