Best Mattress For Slatted Base

Trish Slater asked
18th October 2016

Hello. We are wanting a new mattress to go on a slatted wooden base. My husband weighs 15 stone and I weigh 10 stone. We don’t want memory foam and I am slightly arthritic with aching joints. Can you advise?
Thank you .

Hi Trish

Thanks for your question.

Please look at our article on mattress tension here. At your body weights your husband is a medium tension spring, and you are actually in a soft tension spring, but could have a medium tension spring if you like a slightly firmer support. This is available in the more hand made naturally fibre filled mattresses (Artisan Range).

In the Origins range on our site they are all a medium tension spring as standard and this can’t be changed. These mattresses are fine to be used with slatted bases.

For anyone suffering with Arthritis or aching joints you want a mattress that is described as soft or medium feel in the comfort layers, so it doesn’t create any further pressure.

We would say the Origins Comfort 1000, or the Origins Pocket 1500 would be suitable. In the Artisan Range the Artisan Naturals, Artisan Bespoke 004 or Artisan Luxury are the models to have a look at.
