TAKE OUR MATTRESS QUIZ

Can I use mattress directly on floor?

Damian asked

Hi guys, I am a big fan of the site; thank you for all your efforts and info. Quick question: I am currently in the market for a mattress (settled on pocket springs) but am considering putting it directly on the floor. I have a raised loft area specifically designed for this, but am curious about any potential negative side effects. If a pocket sprung mattress requires an even base, the floor seems to a pretty good answer!

Many thanks, Damian

Hi Damian,

Thanks for your question.

We get asked this one a lot, Some people have questioned if there will be enough air circulation to prevent any damp issues.

We advise not to leave a mattress on the floor for any extended amount of time, as the environment is ideal for the growth of mould, we would also advise that you follow the care instructions.

As part of our own care and maintenance instructions we advise to flip the mattress over once a month in the first year, dropping to every 3-4 months in the second year onwards. This is to combat settlement as well as allowing the fillings to settle evenly.

A mattress going on to the floor will give the mattress a slightly firmer feel, similar to a solid platform top base.

I hope this has answered your questions fully but if you do have any further queries please don’t hesitate to contact our office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards, Lee.
