Firm bed for bad back

Andrew asked
27th July 2017

I have found sleeping on the floor the best for my back since having back surgery however, I\’m interested in a firm bed that can hold my weight circa 98kg which creeps up depending on terrible food consumption. I\’m also 6 foot 2 so please bear that in mind.I have gone through your website and found it to be extremely informative with options leading to some confusion at times.I\’ll be grateful if you can advise on the best possible bed for me and supporting reasons.

Hi Andrew,

Thank you for your question.

At the height and weight you have provided, I would recommend a medium spring tension to provide you with the right support. I would recommend you look at either the;

The Artisan 1500

John Ryan By Design Artisan 1500
1500gsm Wool
2600gsm Rebound Poly Cotton (50/50)
3700gsm Polyester
4600gsm: Rebound Poly Cotton (50/50)
5700gsm Polyester
61200 gsm Cashmere Hair Pad as Insulator
71500 Spun Bond Pocket Springs (Soft/Med or Firm)
Total GSM4300gsm

This particular model would be entirely suitable for the vast majority of users and beats hands down the bulk of all models retailing at a similar or even higher price.
Please take note of the upholstery construction. The most expensive component within this mattress is the whopping 1200 gsm of Cashmere used as the insulating layer directly on top of the springs (both sides) and this is where the bulk of your money is going. This is not an indulgent extravagance but used for being among the best upholstery components that can be utilised as an insulating layer.

Tailored Pocket 2000

John Ryan By Design Artisan Tailored Pocket
11200gsm Blended British Fleece Wool and Cotton.
2Hairproof Cambric Cover
31250gsm Poly Cotton
41500gsm Pure 100% Mohair
52000 Double Tier Spun Bond Pocket Springs (Soft/Med or Firm)
Total GSM3950gsm

This would provide you with an ever firmer medium feel in the comfort layers than the Artisan 1500.
The quality of upholstery used is the key to this particular model. A total of 3950 GSM is no lightweight mattress. The blended wool and cotton we use as our primary comfort layer is the same / similar to the blended wool and cotton used on many Vi Spring mattresses. Testament to the quality of this one individual component alone. The Mohair layer at 1500 gsm is also a premium product that you would not normally expect to find included in a mattress at this price.

Our mattresses start off at 3′ x 6’3″ (91cm x 190 cm) so your height will not be an issue.

I hope this helps,

if you have any further questions please don’t hesitate to call the office on 0161 437 4419

Kind regards,
Amy.
