Mattress help for prolapsed disc

Neil asked
6th October 2014

I need a king size mattress that will give me some relief from a prolapsed disc.

I have narrowed my testing to a Kaymed relax superior at €1549 and a KingKoil Spinal Tranquility at €849.

I am leaning towards the King Koil because we have an older version which is very comfortable when I get to sleep in it.

Can you suggest a quality alternative for either.

Hi Neil,

Thank you for your question.

Please can you confirm any of the build components of the two mattresses you refer to, as I have been unable to locate either item in my searches.  Unless we have this information, it makes it virtually impossible for us to offer any alternative suggestions.

We would need to know the specifications of the mattresses, your personal weight details and preferred feel.

As you have a prolapsed disc, you need the mattress to give you not only the correct support but also the right amount of comfort and I would recommend a mattress that has a more medium comfort which means that the mattress is neither too soft nor too firm.   With regard to the support, this is dictated by your body weight and until I have this information I am unable to recommend the correct spring tension for you.

BodyweightSpring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kgMedium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg UpwardsFirm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call)Soft (1.2mm)

In the Origins Range, which are pocket sprung mattresses, I would recommend looking at the Origins Pocket 1500 as this mattress has a more medium comfort layer and comes with a medium spring tension.  The comfort layers are man made.

In the Artisan Range, these mattresses have natural fillings and the first four Artisan mattresses all come with a medium comfort layer.  The difference between them is the amount of natural fillings in each mattress.  We can tweek the spring tension in these mattresses to suit your body weight.

I hope the above information is of assistance to you but I would advise telephoning our office on 0161 437 4419 to discuss the matter in more details.

Kind regards Julie
