MDF on slats for ventilation
Hi I saw your MDF board on your slatted base and think this is a great idea as I was worried about the mattress going through the slats. I had ordered a continues coil mattress with a foam topping so will I still need to do this?
Also you have it in a T shape is this what one needs to do, or does one need to fill in all the slats. I was wonder how your mattress breathes, would one not be better using pegboard with holes in it to allow the mattress to breathe. Thanks for your question.
The majority of our mattresses are fine to go on to a slatted bed base as long as the gaps between the slats are no bigger than 3″. If you measure and they are then this is where we advise to place MDF, plywood or pegboard over the base to protect the mattress from indentation and damage.
Some people prefer pegboard as the additional holes allow for ventilation but our mattresses are fully breathable anyway so this isn’t a necessity. Please see the link here for further information on this area.
Our advice would be to cover as much of the surface as possible to protect the mattress and create the uniform platform top.
