Miracoil memory foam sagging

David asked
10th March 2016

HI, currently my partner and I are enduring a King size Silentnight Miracoil 7 on a firm slatted base but are finding it increasingly uncomfortable as the memory foam has settled into 2 grooves and the springing appears to be sagging a little on the heavier side! As we are of differing weights (14st v 19st) my original thoughts were to go for a split tension matress (med-firm) but we then render it a non-turn version. Would getting a King size matress to an overall firm tension, with a topper for comfort, be a better idea? Perhaps you could suggest a suitable item from your range.
Thanks,
David

Hi David,

Gosh, what a problem, dipping memory foam and sagging springs. That can’t be comfortable, and unfortunately, you’re experiencing what a number of memory foam users report. That after a while the memory foam compresses, especially if not correctly supported by reflex foam or a soft density foam. Once it compresses and sags that’s it game over sadly.

Given your weight, I’d never recommended memory foam as its simply not made for people over about 16 stone, well not made to last that is.

A split tension mattress would be ideal and in our range, any two-sided mattress can still be turned, you would just need to rotate it to keep the same side. So the one-sided issue wouldn’t occur David.  You could also look at a zip and link which means you can keep the same side and it also reduces transference if one of you wiggles about a lot at night as they are two separate mattresses.

If I was you I’d start my search att at the Origins 1500, in a 1500 spring and 2000 spring split or zip and link as the entry model.  The other option would be to look at our Artisan range which can all be made in soft, medium or firm spring tensions and they have a variety of upholstery tensions.

We hope that helps!
