Right mattress for my bodyweight

Amanda asked
18th March 2015

Hello, I’m 5’6 and 13 stone, I need to buy a new bed soon as i’m moving out so will be getting a double.

After testing out various mattresses in shops, i only seem to find Medium/Soft or soft comfortable, is that okay with my weight?

Hi Amanda,

Thank you for your question.

For your body weight we would normally recommend a medium tension for your mattress.  This is due to the fact that with a pocket sprung mattress, it is the springs which give you the support and the upholstery layers that give you the comfort.   You can therefore have a medium tension mattress but with soft upholstery layers.

BodyweightSpring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kgMedium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg UpwardsFirm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call)Soft (1.2mm)

We have two ranges of pocket sprung mattresses both of which contain a mattress which has those soft upholstery layers.  In our Origins Range, I would recommend the Origins Comfort 1000 which comes with a medium spring tension but has soft upholstery layers.   In the Artisan Range, I would recommend our Artisan Luxury which again can have a medium spring tension and has soft upholstery layers.

If intending to purchase from elsewhere, then please make sure you appraise the salesperson of your preferred feel and body weight, so that they can direct you to an appropriate mattress.

I trust this will assists but please do not hesitate to contact our office for further information or advice on 0161 437 4419.

Kind regards Julie
