Sprung slats causing problems
Hi John and Ryan,
I have had a 20cm classic Tempur super kingsize mattress for the last 6 years and I have always got on with it very well. It has always been on a slatted bed base (just from Ikea) and I haven't had any problems. my Ikea bed broke and so 2 weeks ago I brought a John Lewis Avenue Bedstead, Super Kingsize.
It has sprung slats (the ikea bed slats weren't sprung) and I am now getting back ache.
My question is, could the sprung slats be causing the backache or would this make no difference?
Thanks, Fran .
Hi Fran,
Thanks for your question.
It does seem very coincidental that you started experiencing pains not long after changing your base.
Sprung slats do have a bit more give in them than solid slats so it could just be that you're not suited to anything with a bit more give in them.
It might be worth looking at buying some standard sheets of MDF, plywood or pegboard to place over the slats to solidify the surface with a uniform platform top. If this helps to ease the pain then you know it's down to the slats being different.
It could also simply be that your body is adjusting to a brand new base; We'd always advise to give any new purchase at least 4-6 weeks to get used to it as your body does need time to adjust.
Our safest advice here, outside of trialling solidifying the base, would be to contact Tempur direct to see what their advice is. We can only advise to a certain level when it comes to another retailer's products.
