Supportive but soft mattress advice

Tony asked
8th September 2015

Firstly, I must add to what others have already said….’What A Brilliant Website’!!
I’m having huge problems trying to select a supportive, but soft mattress as I only weight about 8 stone, and suffer from osteoporosis and fibromyalgia.
Having spent numerous hours conducting research, (mostly on your site!!)I’m, . sold on getting A Latex mattress. My physiotherapist also suggests latex, owing to my very slight build, and the aforementioned problems.
I have come across a range of pure latex mattresses from a German company called Prolana, which have a ‘Comfort Plus’ model, which is made up of 14cms pure Natural Latex, covered in either, 100% merino wool fleece, or 100% cotton fleece, and is finished in a pure cotton cover. They state it is ‘ideal for people of medium or light weight, and is a soft tension option.
I would be most grateful if you could offer your expert thoughts on this, or, indeed, offer any suggestions otherwise, perhaps one of your latex models??
A final word, I currently have a Vispring ‘soft’ tension mattress, which is only 15 months old, and even with a good quality topper is very uncomfortable, and actually is aggravating the continuous joint and muscle pains I suffer from. Sorry to ‘rattle on’, but I’ getting pretty desperate now to get some quality sleep and relaxation. I very much look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Tony,

thank you for your question.

At first glance the mattress from Germany looks like a good product, however, reference to pure latex without confirming the density and % of latex used is something to be wary of. In addition, the use of fleece mattress-upholstery-fibre/” title=”wool”>wool or cotton fleece provides the mattress with a degree of fire retardance, which on its own the latex will not have, unless it has been chemically treated. I am unable to provide a specific recommendation in respect of this product or confirm that it will be right for you. As you will no doubt be aware, it is difficult to find items which suit all your requirements. Certainly for someone of your body weight and with having fibromyalgia and osteoporosis, it is important to buy the right mattress.
