Is Talalay latex hot?

Stephanie asked
21st October 2016

My husband and I are seriously bed shopping and hope to buy a bed in the next day or so. We found the Silent Night Chantilly bed at Dreams to be our favourite. We then found your web site and are very interested but have a few questions about talalay latex. Is this material hot to sleep on? We are moving to Barbados in the coming months and were wondering if we will find it hot like foam mattress toppers. Is this a comparable bed to the Silent Night Chantilly (we have read your feelings about a mattress topper)? Many thanks, Stephanie Wheatley

Hi Stephanie,

Many thanks for your enquiry. We have viewed the details of the Chantilly mattress and are concerned to note that it is what is known as a pillow top mattress.

There is an article here which clarifies why we do not make or recommend such products.

There is an article here about latex, which includes a section on Talalay, which we think you may find interesting.

As far as heat retention/generation is concerned, memory foam is notorious for this, so not only is the Chantilly a pillow top, it also contains memory foam in that pillow top. This is not a recommended combination at any time let alone when you are taking the mattress to a hotter climate. Latex in general is not heat retentive/generative, but that is based upon usage in the UK climate.

We do make a pocket sprung mattress, which contains Talalay latex and that is the Origins Pocket Latex 1500.

Naturally upholstered mattresses may also be worth looking at in terms of comfort and the lack of heat retention/generation.

We trust that the above is of assistance to you, but if you require any further advice or guidance, please do not hesitate to call our office on 0161 437 4419.

kind Regards Gary
