What base for a Dormeo Octaspring mattress?

Steve asked
15th September 2013

Hi I just bought a Dormeo 8500 Octaspring memory foam mattress and I have a slatted bedframe.

I’m concerned the slats might not be appropriate for the mattress.

I’m not sure I can lay down flat surfaces like MDF between the mattress and the slats because I suspect the warranty might require a breathable surface below the mattress.

I haven’t slept in the bed yet, simply ordered it online.

Any advice would be great.

Here is a link to the bedframe, you can see the slats in one of the pictures.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your question.

With our own products we advise that our mattresses can go on to a slatted base as long as the gaps are no bigger than 3″. If they are bigger than 3″ then we advise to place MDF, plywood or pegboard over them to protect from indentation or damage.

Our mattresses are fully breathable so don’t require gaps in order to ventilate – This will differ between retailers so I would always seek the advice of the retailer you purchased from for full and accurate advice. We ourselves do not manufacture or retail any sort of slatted base for the reason our mattresses don’t need the gaps to ventilate.

Some foam and latex mattresses from different retailers won’t be breathable so will need gaps to ventilate – It is always worth seeking the advice of where you purchase from for their advice.

I hope this has answered your questions fully but if you do have any further queries please don’t hesitate to contact our office on 0161 437 4419. We are open Monday to Friday 8 am to 8 pm and Saturday and Sunday 10 am to 4 pm.

Kind Regards, Lee.
