A customer asked

Hello, Are you able to expand the description on your Pocket Latex 1500 mattress?

It seems to have a much briefer description than say the Origins Pocket which is broken down with more photos and details. I'm trying to decide if having latex on top is worth the extra £200?

Is there anywhere or anyway I can try this mattress first?

I appreciate you offer the 2 week guarantee but buying a mattress without trying the feel seems crazy to me!

I've been mattress shopping for about 2 months now and the differences between simarly spec'd mattresses in firmness and general feel is vast. PS I would've posted this in the Pocket Latex page but comments are closed. Thanks!

Hi Jon.

Fair comment. Firstly, I understand your scepticism about buying mattresses online without being able to try them first. This was even more of a 'Crazy Idea' when I started than it is today, hence the reason why I give such detailed information on product and throughout the site to explain the hundreds of inter-related aspects of build and construction.  The most crucial thing to understand is that you have to compare like for like. Only when you do this you will know if you can (or can't) get better for your money.

We say our Origins Pocket 1500 at £620 (king size - Sept 2018) is the best build you can get for this budget.  We have detailed the internal specifications in order that you go away with these and see if you can find better, give or take a few pounds. Your starting point would be the multiples - Argos / Bensons / Dreams etc. All you have to do is look at the models with a similar retail price and see how it stacks up to ours. Of course, this is where you will encounter the mattress equivalent to legalese. If you do not fully understand the component - then ask for a description in laymans terms.

Our Origins Pocket Latex 1500  at £895 (king size - Sept 2018) is a completely different build to the Origins Pocket 1500. There is not much more we can tell you about this. Latex is a far better product than Polyester and more expensive, hence the price difference. It is also a far more durable product - having a 7 year Guarantee as opposed to a three year. To see if there is anything better, we have given you the weights and depths as a starting point and it will not take you long to find alternatives. We can always justify what we offer for sale, and it is a shame that many other manufacturers do not give you the information you need to do this.

Your final comment on the differences between similarly spec mattresses being different was interesting. If you have found a mattress with a similar construction of say our Origins Pocket Latex 1500, same spring count, same depth and combination of fillings etc then there is no reason why the difference in feel should be so different. I do draw back to your opening sentence about buying a mattress unseen and untested.

We have listed for sale about 12 or 15 mattresses out of the 4000 or so available as being the best you can get for that particular budget. We have tried and tested these, we have compared them to countless others of the same ilk, we have taken into account the overall quality, the finishing, the detailing, the manufacturer, the service etc and what we have on our site, we deem to be the best (or amongst the best) that we have personally found for the price we ask.

As a footnote, our Love It or return It Guarantee is there for your assurance in order to allay the fear of 'What if it is wrong'. If there was anything untoward about this promise then the power of the internet would be informing you so. We know more about beds and mattresses than many people we encounter, and that includes a bulk of manufacturers. We ask the questions that consumers should be asking and it is virtually impossible to pull the wool over our eyes. If there was nothing to hide then all mattress components would be as open and detailed as ours. Why they aren't should be leading you to question the retailers and manufacturers concerned exactly why not.

All the best

John and Ryan.
