Sweetdreams Marble is dipping on both sides?

A customer asked

We bought a Sweetdreams Marble 2000 Mattress which I believe has 2000 individual pocket springs. Anyhow we have only been sleeping on it for 2 weeks and it has sunk both sides of the bed where my husband and I lie. We have been advised by the manufacturer to flip it over every week for 3 months to allow the mattress to settle, but this is the crucial point because my husband and I are disabled and the mattress is super heavy!!

we have explained that the website had no mention of this care on it but got the fob off that all mattresses have this care required. What do you suggest as a suitable alternative because we have stated that we want a replacement and feel that this is not acceptable. I have a Spinal Problem and my husband has just had a knee replacement. We would welcome any advice. .

Hi Christine.

Unfortunately, and with all due respect, if you are not prepared to take measures to maintain your mattress, the fault lies with you - not the manufacturer or retailer.

I cannot find any detailed specification on this particular mattress but as it retails for less than £300 for a double I can only assume it is polyester based of an unknown quantity [read here for more].

The fact that you can see body impressions in a couple of weeks tells me that the polyester primary layer is already beginning to fail and you should be taking measures to supplement this with additional topper to take the wear and tear of usage.

Adding a mattress topper will also help you in your inability to regularly turn the mattress.

There is no doubt about it that this is a cheap polyester mattress and you cannot expect it to perform or last without supplementing it with something more substantial.

If budget is limited I would consider a 3cm memory foam topper (less than £100) which will give you additional comfort and protect the underlying mattress from any more deterioration.

Sorry this is not the response you were probably hoping for but it really is the fact of your situation.

You have certainly not overpaid for this particular model but neither is it anything special.

Polyester breaks down considerably with perspiration and the more you can do to hinder this the better.

In the meantime to prevent any further deterioration, place an old duvet under your bottom sheet until you get a more substantial topper.

A good company to look at for mattress toppers is Soak and Sleep.
