Replacing Relyon mattress

Hi John and Ryan Great, informative website. I'm looking for some advice. My husband and I are looking for a replacement for our kingsize Relyon Bedstead 1000, which sits on a sprung slatted base. I'm ashamed to admit it's about 12 years old but it has done good service and been very comfortable. We both weigh about 9 - 9.5 stone. I'm about 5' 4", he's about 5' 9". My husband has had a bad back for years and general aches and pains but the bed hasn't made it any worse. We always really liked the combination of support and softness that the mattress gives us so we were thinking of replacing it with a Relyon Bedstead Superior 1000 or 1200. I was quite surprised to see that it is retailing at a similar price (£500 mark) to what we paid all those years ago, which made me wonder if it would be the same quality mattress. Perhaps that's the impact of competition?

Nobody seems to be able to tell me. Any thoughts?

Looking at your website the Artisan Naturals looks great, although considerably more expensive!

I was interested to read that the minimum price you could think of charging for a quality product was around the £500 mark so I am wondering whether if we go for the Relyon we are buying something inferior to what we currently have. I'd also be interested in how your Origins Comfort / Reflex (it sounds as if we'd go for the Comfort based on body weight) compares to the Relyon. Thanks for any pointers. Kind regards. Sarah "

>Hi Sarah.

The good thing going for you is that your bodyweights do not require an all singing all dancing support - 1000 pockets will be more than adequate.

The Relyon mattress you are looking at is certainly not overpriced for what you will be getting.

The upholstery is quite similar to our Origins Reflex and our Origins pocket 1500.

The use of the foam layer is a good addition to polyester (white fibre) and considerably extends the life the product.

It was nice to see this in the Relyon Bedstead Superior.

Personally, I would recommend our Origins Comfort rather than the Reflex.

The Comfort is the softest in our Origins Range combines pocket-springs and deep man made fillings to provide excellent comfort and value for money.

John Ryan By Design Origins Comfort
1 750gsm Very Soft Polyester
2 500gsm Polyester Pad
3 One Inch Foam Insulator Layer
4 1000 Spun Bond Pocket Springs

However, in fairness I do think the Relyon Superior may also be worthy of consideration.

Hope this helps and let us know what you decide.

Please do not hesitate to call the office on 0161 437 4419 if you should have any further questions.

Kind regards,
Amy.
